Saint Paddy arrived on Whidbey Island with Irish Sea Captain Edward Barrington on March 17th.
Upon his arrival, he chased all the snakes out of Oak Harbor as he had done in Ireland.
Why green? Because green is the color of the national the national flower and emblem of Ireland of Ireland, a shamrock.
A shamrock has but three leaves, used by Saint Paddy to teach the Trinity. A lucky clover has four.
The national symbol of Ireland is the mighty harp!
St. Paddy is the correct spelling, derived from his original Irish name, Pádraig.
St. Paddy was born in Britain.
St. Paddy was abducted by Irish raiders and brought to Northern Ireland
St. Paddy Invented Green Food Coloring.
Leprechauns actually reside in the Whidbey Island environs, but their Green Garb makes them difficult to spot on our own Emerald Isle.
We wear green on St. Paddy’s Day or risk getting pinched!
This is because wearing green makes us invisible to leprechauns, who like to pinch anyone they can see.
And besides, sporting the green hue brings good luck.

The first St. Paddy’s Day parade in Ireland was in 1903 in the Irish town of Waterford becoming an official Irish public holiday.
Corned beef and cabbage, traditionally enjoyed on St. Paddy’s day is another American innovation.
And… for that matter, so is the Reuben Sandwich.
